10/20/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce $5 Million in Grants for CT Classrooms

WASHINGTON – New Britain and New Haven will receive $5 million in federal funds to boost education and child development for low-income children, Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today.  The New Britain Human Resources Agency and the New Haven Public Schools have been awarded the funds through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Head Start program.

9/25/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Port, Transit Security Grants for Connecticut

Washington – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today that Connecticut will receive port, rail, and transit security grant funding from the Infrastructure Protection Program within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  Bridgeport will receive $24,968 and New London $637,500 in port security grants.  New Haven will share $53,800,000 in transportation security grant funding with three other Tri-State area cities. The State of Connecticut will also receive $189,000 in buffer zone protection funds.

8/18/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce More Than $42K for Allingtown Fire Department in West Haven

WASHINGTON – Allingtown Fire Department in West Haven will receive a $42,123 grant, Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today. Allingtown Fire Department will receive the funds for new equipment and safety and training programs.

“Connecticut firefighters are often the first on the scene of a catastrophe. They shouldn’t be last when it comes to getting critically important resources,” said Dodd. “Thankfully this assistance – while only a start – can begin to provide our firefighters with the help they need and deserve.”

8/01/06: Sen. Dodd, Connecticut Delegation Requests State of Emergency Designation for June 2 Storm in State

Washington –The Connecticut congressional delegation yesterday wrote to President George W. Bush in support of Governor M. Jodi Rell’s request that a major disaster declaration be made for the State of Connecticut as a result of a storm on June 2, 2006, that flooded portions of the state, and particularly the City of Waterbury. The letter was initiated by Senator Chris Dodd.

7/14/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Major DHS Contract for Meriden Firm

Washington – Senators Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) announced today that the Department of Homeland Security is awarding a contract of $1.1 billion for border and port security to three companies, including Canberra of Meriden. The contracts will cover the development of radiation detection devices which eventually will be installed at nearly all our nation’s 361 seaports and major border crossings.

6/20/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce More than $2 Million for Connecticut's Transportation Infrastructure

WASHINGTON – Today, Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced the allocation of more than $2 million in funding for Connecticut highways and ferry service in the form of four grant awards from the Federal Highway Administration. The three grants target will be used in construction projects aimed at alleviating traffic and congestion in New Haven, New London and Norwich.

Each year, the American Ambulance Association honors paramedics, EMTs, and other ambulance service personnel who "exemplify what is best about their field". Award recipients are selected by their colleagues and travel to D.C. to attend events associated with National Emergency Medical Services week.

There are six Stars of Life award recipients from Connecticut this year. They are:

Andrew Duval of Norwich;
Nicole Figueroa of New Haven;
Chris Handel of West Hartford;
Erin McNamara of New Britain;
Deana Peterson of New Britain; and
William Westermeyer of Meriden


4/26/06: Senator Dodd Meets with Students from Highland Mustard Seed Charter School

Meeting with them on the steps of the Capitol, Senator Dodd joined a group of 7th and 8th grade social studies students from the Mustard Seed Charter School, one of the highest performing charter schools in Connecticut.


4/11/06: Sen. Dodd Outlines Details of Bill to Improve Veterans Health Care

West Haven, CT – Senator Chris Dodd today announced the planned introduction of legislation to improve veterans’ health care services following a tour of the Department of Veterans Affairs facility in West Haven. He was joined by Roger Johnson, the facility’s director, Woody Lechausse of the Connecticut Disabled American Veterans and Gary Waterhouse of the Connecticut Veterans of Foreign Wars.
