A word from Congressman Zach Wamp...

November 17, 2006 -- Our Land and Our People
As a strong advocate for land preservation and conservation in our beautiful and scenic East Tennessee homeland, some of my most rewarding achievements in the United States Congress have involved safeguarding land to preserve our environment and natural resources.

July 28 , 2006 -- Illegal immigration must be stopped
While some issues are difficult to address in Washington, one issue seems crystal clear to me. We must curtail the flow of illegal immigrants across the Mexican border. Indeed, an overwhelming majority of East Tennesseans tell me they want our southern border secured and they do not want to reward with citizenship those who have violated our laws.

July 21 , 2006 -- Stem cell debate: fiction over fact
Listening to the rhetoric being tossed about this week on the floors of Congress and the tenor of the comments on call in shows regarding stem cell research, I was troubled to hear how this issue has unnecessarily divided the country. Researchers – medical doctors and veteran scientists – have been telling us and science has shown that research on adult stem cells, which does not require the taking of human life, is much more effective and has yielded fantastic results. If we are truly forward thinking, if we really want to give hope to those with debilitating diseases and conditions, if we want to honor the Hippocratic oath of ‘do no harm,’ we will urge research in all these areas while respecting the sanctity of human life and base our communication with the American people on fact, not fiction.

June 20 , 2006 -- Tennessee leads America’s successful war on meth
America is making great strides in combating illegal methamphetamine production, distribution and use and Tennessee law enforcement is on the cutting edge of this fight. But when many of the victims of meth continue to be the innocent children of meth dealers and addicts, now is not the time to rest on our successes. With a combination of national initiatives and stronger state laws we can and will work together to attack the proliferation of methamphetamine in our region.

June 16 , 2006 -- In the debate on Iraq, retreat is not an option
As the U.S. House of Representatives this week engaged in a full day of debate, from all perspectives, on our presence and our mission in Iraq, I was reminded of the observations English philosopher John Stuart Mill made about war and the people who fight them on our behalf. Mill said, "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of ever being free unless those very freedoms are made and kept by better persons than himself."

April 26, 2006 -- Ending America’s Addiction to Foreign Oil
With gasoline prices at an all time high and the President’s commitment to devote more resources to develop alternative energy, we now have the opportunity, if not a mandate, to end America’s reliance on foreign oil and grow our economy.

April 13, 2006 -- Poor Health Threatens U.S. Economy
Americans are unhealthy and we are paying a heavy price for it

March 31, 2006 -- Tax Cuts Create Strong and Resilient Economy
Fueled by pro-growth tax relief enacted by the Congress and President Bush, our economy grew at a healthy 3.5 percent in 2005, and consumer confidence recently rose to its highest level in three years.

January 6, 2006 -- The Abramoff Scandal
"I was traveling out of state with my son, spending a little quality family time attending a basketball game, when I heard about the Abramoff plea agreement and was instantly saddened that the American political system was impacted in this way.
