Since I was elected to Congress, it has been my privilege to host several events. Some of them have been once-in-a-lifetime experiences and others went so well we have made them annual occurrences. Below are some of the highlights from the past few years.

Volkswagen Chooses Chattanooga

The Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. announced that it has chosen Chattanooga for its new $1 billion U.S. plant. The announcement is more than just good news for our region: It brings an economic boom of up to 14,000 jobs to our area, places the Scenic City at the forefront of automotive development and validates everything we have been working for over the years. The Tennessee Valley Technology Corridor is thriving and Volkswagen is our latest and greatest success story.

47th Annual Congressional Baseball Game

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington and the Washington Literacy Council will receive more than $140,000 – a fundraising record – from the proceeds of this year’s summer classic held for the first time at the new Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

Tennessee Valley Corridor 2008 National Summit

"Through regional collaboration and cooperation the Tennessee Valley Corridor can lead the country in meeting the challenges we face in today's changing world," said Congressman Wamp, founder of the Tennessee Valley Corridor. The 2008 Summit in May included participants such as the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Y-12 National Security Complex, Redstone Arsenal and Marshall Space Flight Center.

Fort Campbell: A World-Class Army Community

While visiting Fort Campbell, Congressman Zach Wamp joined about two dozen soldiers for lunch and talked with them about their service. Zach went to Fort Campbell in April to examine the base’s construction needs, observe its missions and hear about some of the challenges the U.S. Army faces during its transformation.

National Character and Leadership Symposium

“Takers eat well, givers sleep well,” sums up Congressman Zach Wamp’s keynote address to the U.S. Air Force Academy’s 15th Annual National Character and Leadership Symposium hosted by the USAFA’s Center for Character Development in February 2008.
