7/31/06: Dodd Urges Justification of Job Cuts at IRS

Washington – Citing a recent New York Times report revealing that the IRS plans to eliminate nearly half of the agency’s lawyers who perform audits related to the estate and gift taxes, Senator Chris Dodd wrote a letter on July 26 to IRS Commissioner Mark W. Everson requesting details explaining his decision. Dodd, a senior member of the Senate’s Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs, said he hoped that the job cuts did not represent an attempt to undermine the enforcement of current law governing the estate and gift taxes.

5/24/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce $2.4 Million For Job Access and Reverse Commute Program

WASHINGTON –Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today announced a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation in the amount of $2,477,954 for the Job Access and Reverse Commute program (JARC). The funding will be administered through the Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT) for statewide expansion of transit services geared towards filling gaps between lower income Connecticut residents and regional job centers, job-training programs, and educational facilities.

5/05/06: Senator Dodd Works to Reduce Price at Gas Pumps

Wallingford, Ct.– Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn., today once again called for his legislation to provide a rebate for Connecticut consumers to help alleviate skyrocketing prices at the gas pumps. He also urged the nation to invest in innovative alternative fuel technology that would help lesson the nation’s dependence on foreign oil and gas and provide for a cleaner environment. Dodd this morning toured Proton Energy Systems in Wallingford, Connecticut, which is currently working on a technology that only relies on water for power generation.

Black Hawk procurement, Air Force competition at stake with dispute exceeding one-month period

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In a letter to Sikorsky company and union officials, the Connecticut Congressional delegation today urged both parties to go back to the bargaining table and not leave until a compromise has been reached. The members expressed their concern over the strike's duration and the impact it is having on defense manufacturing and Sikorsky's competitiveness. The strike began on February 19 and several attempts to resume negotiations have broken down. The letter was spearheaded by Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3), whose district is home to Sikorsky's main Connecticut facility.

Washington, DC – Senator Chris Dodd made the following statement after the Senate narrowly passed the budget by a vote of 51-to-49 late last night.

“Our nation is the strongest in the world. Our people have the ability to meet any and all challenges. But unfortunately this Administration and Congress have pushed us off course into dangerous waters. And instead of correcting that ill-advised course, they continue to steer us toward the rocky shoals of fiscal irresponsibility. This budget confirms that. Instead of paying down the massive debt that has ballooned under President Bush, this budget only adds to the record debt racked up by this Administration. Instead of investing in our people and our nation’s security, this budget hands out goodies and treats to special interests and those at the very top.

“When it is bitterly cold or terribly hot, people in dire need should know that they’ll be able to stay safe. Yesterday, the Senate passed legislation to help provide people with the resources they need to heat or cool their homes. It was a fight up to the finish but I’m pleased to say that we were able to secure an additional $7 million to help Connecticut families in need.
