Airports
USAID’s goal is to provide material and personnel for the repair of airport facilities,
rehabilitate airport terminals, facilitate humanitarian and commercial
flights, and assist the Iraqi Airport Commission Authority.

Baghdad International
Airport has been refurbished
and repaired with
assistance from USAID
and CPA. |
- Flights have been arriving
and departing Baghdad
International Airport since
July 2003. BIAP is processing
an average of 45 nonmilitary
arrivals and departures
daily.
- Completed emergency
infrastructure work at BIAP
for civil air operations, including
repairing Terminal
C and administration offices
and installing VSAT communications
systems and
adding power generators.
- Completed work to prepare
Al Basrah International
Airport for commercial operations,
including installing
VSAT and radio communications;
runway, taxiway,
and apron striping; and
installing baggage x-ray
units and a perimeter fence.
Work to rehabilitate the
water and wastewater treatment
facilities are almost
complete.
