As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I am honored to have a voice in our nation's foreign policy. The United States of America is a shining example of freedom, and has the ability to lead the world by example. Our nation is a generous one, and while the temptation to give money and aid to all corners of the globe is great we must also be proper stewards of your hard-earned tax dollars. Foreign aid, while a noble cause, must be reformed to ensure that money is spent both efficiently and wisely. Additionally, we must begin to shift our aid model from one of direct monetary aid to one of trade. Strong trade has the potential to benefit all and creates a stable economic environment that will lift countries out of needing aid in the first place. A stable economy attracts businesses, which in turn creates jobs. Rather than one country becoming reliant on another, we help them become a member of the world economy. However, we must also always be mindful of any trade negotiation to ensure that our trade agreement does not come at the cost of our sovereignty. It is possible to have commerce with nations without losing your sovereignty to them. I welcome a robust foreign policy that encourages this approach.

How we outsourced foreign aid to private companies
In early October, the Trump administration formally rebooted development aid to compete with China’s expansive aid program that seeks to create a new world order for trade.
The maneuver was part of the administration’s response to China’s state-driven Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a program that will spend an estimated $1 trillion on development projects in Asia and Africa that aims to boost China’s global and regional influence by investing in foreign countries.
US Representative Ted Yoho on Tuesday voiced concern over Beijing’s alleged meddling in Saturday’s nine-in-one elections and urged Washington to send Cabinet-level officials to Taiwan as a show of support.
“I’m concerned by the widespread allegations that Beijing attempted to interfere with Taiwan’s local elections this [past] weekend,” Yoho, chairman of the US House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, said in a statement.

“I’m concerned by the widespread allegations that Beijing attempted to interfere in Taiwan’s local elections this weekend. The Chinese Communist Party’s reprehensible campaign to marginalize Taiwan is no secret. Taiwan’s vibrant democracy and upstanding international conduct are qualities the Communist Party should aspire to, rather than undermine.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is “lying through [his] teeth” when he says China is investing in impoverished countries in order to gain control of strategic ports and other infrastructure, a Beijing-based diplomat argued Monday.
“Indeed, we all need to keep our eyes wide open when we want to do something,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters when asked about Pompeo's latest broadside about China's investment strategy. "But it should be keeping eyes wide open and doing things for real, instead of keeping eyes wide open and lying through one's teeth.”
