Agriculture represents the second-largest industry in Florida.  For a state as large and dynamic as ours, this means agriculture impacts a lot of people--and a lot of jobs.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives voted to send the 2018 Farm Bill (H.R. 2) to conference committee. Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL), a member of the House Agriculture Committee, was named as one of the twenty-nine conferees for the 2018 Farm Bill. With the House and Senate passing their versions of this legislation, conferees are chosen from the House and Senate to come together and iron out differences between the two bills. The House and the Senate have passed their versions of the farm bill. Now it is time for appointed legislators to hammer out the details for the final version of the bill. Ted Yoho, U.S. Congressman and member of the House Committee on Agriculture, believes that including funding for citrus greening is vital for the Florida citrus industry.

Before returning to Washington, D.C. earlier this week, Yoho stopped by AgNet Media’s Gainesville office where he expressed that the fate of the Florida citrus industry lies in this citrus greening research.

Sign ups for the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program (WHIP) is set to begin on July 16th. There may be some speculation as to how these payments will flow down to the growers. However according to U.S. Congressman of Florida’s 3rd District, Ted Yoho, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and his staff at the U.S. Department of Agriculture have been working tirelessly to make this a smooth process for growers.
