Internships

Congressman Lieu offers internships in his Washington, D.C. and District offices in three different periods throughout the year:

• Spring: January – May
• Summer: June – August
• Fall: September – December

Although internships in Congressional offices are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. We work with our interns to accommodate their class schedules, and are happy to help if you need to receive course credit for your internship. Our normal internship hours are 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Washington, D.C.

In Washington, interns' responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, staff the front office, give tours of the Capitol to constituents, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, and complete communications-related tasks. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office. We expect interns to work be hard-working, friendly, and intelligent and possess strong writing and communication skills.

Interviews for Spring 2017 internships will begin on October 31, 2016. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all spots are filled.

District

In the Los Angeles office, interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent case work or work on district-based projects of importance. Interns must be willing to commit to at least 15 weeks and two 8-hour shifts per week.

The Spring 2017 Application cycle is now closed. We will begin accepting applications for Summer 2017 internships in February 2017.
