WASHINGTON, D.C.U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks on the Senate floor today ahead of a meeting at the White House on legislation to responsibly fund the government:

"Members on both sides have been working towards an agreement to responsibly fund the government.

"We’ve made a lot of important progress already.

"I expect to move forward this week on a continuing resolution through December 9 at last year’s enacted levels and include funds for Zika control and our veterans.

"Talks are continuing, and leaders from both parties will meet later this afternoon at the White House to discuss the progress and path forward."

LOUISVILLE, KY -- During a speech in Pennsylvania today, former President Bill Clinton mocked Kentucky and West Virginia coal miners saying, “coal people don’t like” Democrats and they “blame the president when the sun doesn’t come up in the morning now.” Following the former president’s speech, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released a statement in response to his remarks:

“The assault by national Democrats against Kentucky’s livelihood and our hard-working coal miners and their families continues. Instead of mocking coal miners whose only crime is trying to make an honest living to produce an affordable energy source, we should be working together to end the job-killing regulations brought on by President Obama’s Administration. Earlier this year, the Republican-led Congress passed legislation to block some of the regulatory pillars of the administration’s War on Coal, and hopefully next year we’ll have a new Republican president who will sign those measures into law and undo some of the damage done over the past eight years under President Obama.”

9/11: 15 Years Later

‘This is a day to remember and honor the victims of September the 11th, and pray for their families.’

September 9, 2016

LOUISVILLE, KY – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell today released a video message regarding the 15th anniversary of 9/11:

Following is a transcript of the Majority Leader’s message:

“September the 11th is no ordinary day on the calendar. On this date fifteen years ago, Al Qaeda terrorists launched brutal and vicious attacks against our country. Ordinary passenger planes became weapons of war, used to split rock and steel. Thousands were killed, and our country was forever changed.

“Today, America remembers not only the horror of those attacks, but the heroism in our response. We saw fire fighters, police officers and first responders rushing into burning buildings as most rushed out. We saw the men and women of our fighting forces stand eager to defend our country. And we saw Americans across the land working together in a spirit of unity.

“Fifteen years later, it is clear that the terrorists did not succeed. This is a day to remember and honor the victims of September the 11th, and pray for their families. We must also express our gratitude to the many Americans who, in the fifteen years gone by, have fought to keep us safe. They fight for our freedom. And freedom is what keeps America the greatest country on earth.”
