What does $2,200 mean to you?  To middle-class Coloradans, $2,200 can mean the ability to put food on the table or gas in the tank. It might also mean being able to send their kids to soccer practice or lessen the burden of a college tuition.  If the U.S. House of Representatives doesn’t act before the end of the year, 1.9 million middle-class Colorado families will lose $2,200.

Last July, the U.S. Senate passed the Middle Class Tax Cut Act to maintain the current tax break every American has on their first $250,000 of income and prevent income taxes from going up at all for 98 percent of American families and 97 percent of small businesses.  House leaders have said they don’t want to raise taxes on the middle class, but their inaction has created a great deal of uncertainty for Colorado families this holiday season.  If my colleagues truly agree that we should protect the middle-class from a tax hike, they should pass the Middle-Class Tax Cut Act.

We cannot balance the budget on the backs of hardworking Americans.

In the previous weeks, I asked my Twitter followers what $2,200 meant to them by using the hashtag #my2k.  The responses that I've seen so far have only reinforced my drive to protect the middle-class from this tax hike and I encourage you to continue to share thoughts with me.  See below to read responses from our fellow Coloradans and please tweet me your #my2k responses.
