Udall, Bennet Congratulate St. Vrain Valley School District on Winning Race to the Top Grant
Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet congratulated the St. Vrain Valley School District today on winning a competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Race to the Top – District (RTT-D) competition. Only 16 districts out of 372 applicants from across the country won grants. St. Vrain requested a grant in the amount of $16,589,553. The Department of Education has yet to finalize the award amounts.

Udall, Bennet Push for EWP Wildfire Recovery Resources in Disaster Relief Bill
Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet introduced legislation today to boost resources for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) program to help support the long-term recovery from this summer’s devastating wildfires in Colorado. Additional EWP resources would be particularly helpful to the communities of Larimer and El Paso counties as they seek to stabilize their watersheds and municipal drinking water infrastructure following the wildfires.

Udall Welcomes White House Request for Wildfire, Watershed-Relief Disaster Funding
Mark Udall thanked the president for requesting that Congress dedicate $30 million for the Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP) and encouraged congressional appropriators to help Colorado communities that are still recovering from last summer's severe wildfire season. Udall had been urging the Administration to request such EWP funds and will now focus on ensuring that the funds address Colorado’s urgent needs.

Mark Udall issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to consider the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8 – both misguided laws that, respectively, prohibit the federal government from recognizing the lawful marriages of gay couples in states all across the country and a voter-approved law that defines marriage as between "a man and woman."

Speech #25: Iowa and the Wind Energy Production Tax Credit

In his 25th speech, Udall focused on the economic impacts of wind energy production in Iowa - whose wind resources could provide 44 times the state's electricity needs and power over 1 million homes. He was joined by his colleague Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). Udall will continue to urge his Senate colleagues to pass the wind Production Tax Credit.

Speech #24: Minnesota and the Wind Energy Production Tax Credit

In his 24th speech, Udall focused on the economic impacts of wind energy production in Minnesota - the wind energy provides for 3,000 Minnesotan jobs, all of which are at risk if the PTC lapses. Udall, Grassley Join Veterans in Urging Congress to Extend the Wind PTC ASAP
Senators Mark Udall and Chuck Grassley headlined a press conference today to stress the urgency of extending the wind Production Tax Credit and securing thousands of manufacturing jobs and made-in-America energy. The senators were joined by Reps. Jerry McNerney (D-Calif.) and Steve King (R-Iowa), as well as 40 veterans, many of whom have found post-military careers in the wind energy industry. The veterans were participating in an Operation Free two-day fly-in in which they met with members of Congress from their home states. The congressional members and veterans came together around one message to Congress: Stop delaying the extension of the wind PTC and secure American jobs and energy security now.
