Congresswoman Bordallo Joins Colleagues in Support of Delegate Voting Rights

1/5/2011 - Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo, today, joined her colleagues from the District of Columbia, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in opposing the passage of H. Res. 5, the rules governing operations of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 112th Congress.  Over the past several weeks, Republican leaders crafted a rules package during the House Republican Conference that, among other provisions, would rescind the ability of delegates to cast symbolic votes on the floor during Committee of the Whole proceedings.

Congresswoman Bordallo Sworn-in for 5th Term

1/5/2011 - Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo, today, was sworn-in to the 112th Congress during a ceremony led by Speaker of the House John Boehner of Ohio.  Congresswoman Bordallo also hosted an “open house” today in her office in the Rayburn House Office Building in recognition of the convening of the new Congress.  Congresswoman Bordallo hosted members of the Guam community residing in the greater Washington D.C. Metropolitan and administered the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected officers of the Guam Society of America.

President Obama Signs the Shark Conservation Act of 2010 into Law

1/5/2011 - Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced that President Barack Obama signed into law, H.R. 81, the Shark Conservation Act of 2010, yesterday evening.  H.R. 81 reconfirms the original intent of Congress to prevent shark finning by prohibiting the removal of fins at sea and the possession, transference, or landing of fins not naturally attached to the corresponding carcass.  The Shark Conservation Act of 2010 was introduced on January 6, 2009, by Congresswoman Bordallo as Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans, and Wildlife.  Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts introduced companion legislation, S. 850, in the U.S. Senate.
