Our economy is facing the worst crisis in decades, and our government faces a budget deficit of nearly half a trillion dollars – triple what it was just a year ago. And in just a few years, Social Security threatens to run dry and Medicare costs are projected to bankrupt us. But the problem in Washington isn’t a lack of money, it’s an insatiable appetite for more spending, much of it wasted. Families across the country are tightening their belts, yet Washington continues to let its out even more. That’s why I have called for a comprehensive solution to tackle the budget crisis in our country head-on. My four-part plan, the Spending Reform Act of 2008, puts in place proven tools to force Congress to clean up its financial house in the short-term and stop ducking the long- term budget problems facing America.
