Health Care

People in Wyoming and all Americans deserve accessible, affordable and high quality health care.

But the fact remains that too many people in Wyoming – including ranchers, small business owners, and small business employees – either do not have health insurance or they are paying far too much for it.

I don’t believe government-run health care is the answer. We need to learn from the experiences of Canada and our European neighbors whose citizens face long lines for care, bureaucracy and inefficiency. Healthcare quality and access suffers in a government-run system.

As an alternative, I fully support Senator Enzi’s 10 Steps to Transform Healthcare.  These steps are based on the notion that individuals, not the government, should have charge over their health care dollars.  These steps would change the tax code and health insurance laws to create more affordable options for people who don’t have the benefit of employer-provided healthcare.  In Wyoming, it’s not just cost that gets in the way of your healthcare, it’s a lack of providers, whether for primary, specialty or mental health care.  I have joined the House Rural Health Care Coalition to address the unique healthcare challenges we face in Wyoming that are not fully understood by our urban counterparts.
