We Need Fiscal Discipline in Washington and Tax Relief for Americans
The solution is not taking more taxes from the American people. The answer is fiscal discipline in Washington, DC and tax relief for working Americans.

Washington, Apr 15 -

As people in Wyoming and all Americans finish filing their taxes today, they, and many generations after them face an increasing and unsustainable mountain of federal debt. When Washington expects taxpayers to foot the bill for its extensive liberal agenda, there is a lot less remaining for families to save and invest.

President Obama and Congressional Democrats are spending the federal government into a record deficit of 1.4 trillion dollars this year alone. The national debt shows no signs of shrinking under a President and Congressional leadership intent on spending their way out of our nation’s economic problems – and expecting American families, small businesses, and family ranches and farms to pick up the tab.

Democrats have rammed through a failed stimulus along with bailouts of car companies, banks, insurance companies and the housing market.

Then there is ObamaCare, which includes more than $1.2 trillion in new spending over the next ten years and will increase taxes by $570 billion. Just this week the Joint Committee on Taxation reported that the health care bill Democrats pushed through Congress last month violates the President’s “no new taxes” pledge by raising billions of dollars of taxes on those earning less than $200,000 a year.

Employer mandates penalize business owners. Medical device taxes will hurt the companies that make them and the people who need them. The new health care law will even take away the tax-free benefit for buying basic medicine cabinet products through a Health Savings Account.

The taxes we pay today are only part of the exploding cost of government. The agenda being pushed through Congress is laying a heavy load on state and local governments.

The Democrats’ agenda also includes a massive energy tax. This cap and tax proposal being floated by the President will destroy the productive capacity of Wyoming’s economy. It will have a devastating impact on the price at the pump, on our utility bills and will dramatically hinder the use of Wyoming coal. The bottom line is cap and tax will wreak havoc on family budgets, small businesses and Wyoming’s economy.

Since January of 2009, President Obama and Congressional Democrats have passed into law gross tax increases totaling more than $670 billion. That’s more than $2,100 for every man, woman and child in the United States. The list of tax hikes include at least 14 violations of the President’s pledge not to raises taxes on Americans earning less than $200,000 for singles and $250,000 for married couples.

The solution is not taking more taxes from the American people. The answer is fiscal discipline in Washington, DC and tax relief for working Americans.

People in Wyoming already know that we can’t spend and tax our way back to a growing economy. It’s simple: In Wyoming we don’t spend money we don’t have. Washington could stand to learn a thing or two from Wyoming’s state government, which by law operates under a balanced budget.

It’s time for Congress to put the American people first and take steps that begin to take the pain out of tax day. To learn how visit www.americanroadmap.org.
