Seniors Social Security
Perhaps
the most important program in our Nation's history, Social
Security has brought workers some financial security when
they retire. Social Security accounts for nearly 40% of the
income of seniors, and accounts for half or more of the income
of almost two-thirds of seniors. Social Security provides
more than just retirement benefits. According to the Social
Security Administration, over one-third of the benefits paid
by Social Security provide income for disabled workers, widows
and widowers, spouses, and children.
For me, there is no more critical task than protecting Social
Security. That is why I oppose the use of Social Security
Trust Fund balances to pay for new spending programs or tax
cuts.
