FARMINGTON — U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd warned Saturday that the failure to develop comprehensive after-school programs places not just children, but the nation as a whole at risk.

 

Speaking before nearly 300 delegates of the Connecticut After School Network symposium, Dodd hailed their efforts and told the delegates he uses Connecticut’s programs “as a model for national after-school programs.”

NEW BRITAIN - For years, Richard Ahern labored to put food on his family's table and a roof over their heads. Then, three years ago, he was injured and went on Social Security disability. Unable to pay his heating bills, he turned to the Human Resources Agency of New Britain for help.

 

Ahern's story was one of several Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd heard Monday in a visit to the Human Resources Agency's Arch Street office.

NEW BRITAIN - For years Richard Ahern labored to put food on his family's table and a roof over their heads. Then, three years ago he was injured and went on Social Security disability. Unable to pay his heating bills, he turned to the Human Resources Agency of New Britain for help.

 

"I found people here wanting to help me, to keep my family in our home," he said. "If it hadn't been for HRA, we'd be on the streets."

Senator Chris Dodd, a senior member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions and a longtime supporter of mental health parity, held a press conference at the Institute of Living in Hartford on Wednesday to celebrate the passage of the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008.

10/07/08: Dodd Statement on Drastic Rise of Connecticut Heating Aid Applications

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) released the following statement today on the recent news that the number of Connecticut households applying for home heating assistance has more than tripled as compared with this time last year.  Last winter, more than 86,000 households in Connecticut received assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a number which is expected to increase dramatically before the season is over.


10/02/08: Dodd Announces Tax Credit for Connecticut Fuel Cell Manufacturers

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) today announced Senate passage of legislation that includes an eight-year extension of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) that will greatly benefit Connecticut fuel cell manufacturers.  The long-term extension, which was approved by the Senate last night as part of a comprehensive package of tax extensions, will provide these Connecticut companies with the financial security they need to make long range plans, increase their investments, and add even more well-paying jobs.   


10/02/08: Dodd Calls on FDA to Investigate Tainted Candy Found in Connecticut

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) called on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to immediately investigate the cases of contaminated candy made in China and distributed  in Connecticut over the last few days.  Dodd wrote to FDA Commissioner Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach urging the FDA to take immediate action and ensure that no additional Americans are put at risk. 


10/02/08: Dodd Applauds NASA's Decision to Reopen Space Suit Competition

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) released the following statement on NASA’s decision to re-open the competition for the new Constellation Space Suit System:

 

“This is great news for Connecticut and its workers, but more importantly, this is the right decision by NASA,” said Dodd.  “The workers of Hamilton Sundstrand know space-suits better than anyone else and they deserve a fair shot at this contract.  I’m confident that Hamilton Sundstrand can win this competition and will continue to build the suits worn by our country’s astronauts, just as they have for the last 40 years.”
