Guam Army National Guard Soldier Attends Iraqi Prime Minister Address to a Joint Session of Congress

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—July 26, 2006—Washington, D.C.

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo invited Chief Warrant Officer Francis A. Pablo to attend Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki’s Address today before a special Joint Session of Congress.  Chief Pablo, from the village of Mongmong, is a 28-year veteran of the Guam Army National Guard and is currently assigned to the Personnel Policy Office of the Army National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Virginia

During his address, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki today asserted that Iraq has become an essential partner to the United States in its fight against terrorism.

“It’s good to know that Iraqi government was committed to the same fight that we are committed to,” Pablo stated in response to hearing the Prime Minister’s remarks.

“I want to thank Congresswoman Bordallo for the opportunity to attend a gathering with so many of the distinguished leaders in our government and the elected leader of Iraq’s new democracy,” Pablo concluded.

“I wanted to share this important national event with a soldier from Guam.  Chief Pablo informed me that he is honored to be representing the servicemen and women from Guam who are serving our nation, both active duty, Guard and Reserves,” Bordallo concluded.
