Pa’a Taotao Tano’ Awarded Federal Grant for Cultural Performing Arts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—September 1, 2006—Hagatna, Guam.

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced today that the Administration for Native Americans (ANA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Pa’a Taotao Tano’ a discretionary social and economic development grant in support of the Northern Cultural Performing Arts Project.

This federal grant is designed to support the public promotion and showcasing of the indigenous culture of the Chamorro people of Guam and the Marianas Islands through a repertoire of traditional cultural dance, lectures and demonstrations.  The grant award amount is $338,738.

“I congratulate Pa’a Taotao Tano’.  The federal grant that they have been awarded will benefit our people and their project will help preserve the traditions and heritage of the Chamorro culture,” Bordallo said.  “It is important that we, as a community, continue to support all projects that aim to promote and preserve the Chamorro culture for generations to come.  The performing arts are a rich and most effective way for our people to share and preserve our culture.”
