Washington, D.C. Internship Program

Position Title: Intern.

Position Description: Assist with all aspects of a Congressional office.

  • Attend briefings, mark-ups, lectures, hearings and votes.
  • Assist with constituent correspondence.
  • Conduct research for Legislative Aides.
  • Complete various special projects for the Congressman.
  • Compose a research paper which provides the opportunity to master and utilize the various research services provided on the Hill.
  • Responsible for various clerical duties, including telephones and mail.

Application Procedure: Complete the one page application form, and submit a resume and a brief essay (approximately two pages) describing one of the most important issues facing our society today and the role that the applicant believes the federal government should play in regards to that issue.

Position Open To: College Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students.

Positions Available: Year round, lasting at the minimum six weeks and maximum one year.

Hours per Week: Flexible, but usually at least fifteen hours per week.

Pay Rate: Volunteer.

District Internship Program
Redding and Chico District Offices

Position Title: Intern.

Position Description: Assist with all aspects of a Congressional District Office.

  • Conduct research for Field Representatives.
  • Assist with casework and constituent correspondence.
  • Request information from Federal Agencies.
  • Complete various special projects for the Congressman and his staff.
  • Responsible for various clerical duties, including telephones, filing and mail.

Application Procedure: Submit your resume to the district office that you would like to intern in, and contact the intern coordinator about setting up a personal interview, which is also required. You may be also be asked to complete a written exam.

Position Open To: Students involved in an academic program that allows them to receive credit for hours spent interning, such as: high school students in a Regional Occupational Program (ROP) and college students in a department-authorized internship program.

Positions Available: Year-round.

Hours per Week: Flexible, but at least twelve per week.

Pay Rate: Volunteer.
