September 11, 2006

“America will never forget the treacherous and heinous attacks of September 11, 2001. We will never forget the blood that was shed. We will never forget the lives lost. And we will never forget the unfathomable pain inflicted on families forever changed by a loss of a family member or loved one.

“But we will also never forget how our nation responded on that fateful day. There was incredible courage, patriotism, charity and resilience exhibited by every first responder, law enforcement officer, and every citizen across this great nation. The true greatness of our nation’s character and spirit was on display on that day and thereafter.

August 24, 2006

“The defeat of the Administration’s proposal to shut down the New London Sub Base was not only significant for Connecticut, it was critically important to our national security.

5/31/06: Statement of Senator Dodd on DHS funding for Connecticut

May 31, 2006
“The Bush Administration continues to ‘nickel and dime’ our nation’s security needs. Law enforcement officials in Connecticut are working night and day to keep our state safe. They deserve our thanks and respect. They don’t deserve funding cuts that shortchange their critically important efforts to protect our citizens. I intend to continue to fight to ensure that more resources are provided to people on the front lines of our state and nation’s security.”

I’ve asked the Treasury Department and Doncasters for a briefing on exactly what conditions have been placed on the transaction to ensure that national security interests are protected. I intend to find out from Treasury officials what, if any, national security vulnerabilities were identified in the course of the 45-day CFIUS investigation, and how those vulnerabilities are going to be mitigated if this deal goes forward.

3/09/06: Statement of Senator Dodd on Dubai Port Announcement

March 9, 2006
“I want to see the fine print and details of this announcement. But if in fact, it turns out to be true, it is good news. The Bush Administration was clearly asleep at the switch and never fully and adequately examined the security implications of this deal. The fact that they’ve so badly bungled the oversight of this deal should hammer home the need to refocus our energy and attention on better protecting our nation’s ports. The Administration also needs to involve the Congress at the beginning of the process and not as an after thought. They have paid a heavy price because they blind sided the Congress and the American people.
