Bordallo Announces Summer Internship Application Process

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—April 10, 2006—Washington, D.C.—

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo is now accepting applications for summer 2006 internships in her Washington, D.C. Congressional office. College strudents are encouraged to apply. The internships are unpaid, but may include a stipend, depending on the student's circumstances. Travel, housing and personal expenses are the responsibility of the student. Most academic programs offer credit for internships with prior coordination.

“An internship on Capitol Hill is a great learning opportunity. I strongly encourage students from Guam to consider an internship in my office as they make their summer plans,” Bordallo stated.

Interns work alongside the permanent, professional staff. Interns draft correspondence, conduct legislative research and execute several important administrative and staff support tasks. In addition to these duties interns are expected to concentrate on one major project during their internship.

Students interested in applying for an internship should fax a cover letter stating their interest and a resume to 202-226-0341. Letters of interest should be addressed to Congresswoman Bordallo in the care of the Chief of Staff. The letters should include the applicant’s dates of availability. Our office will contact candidates upon receipt and review of the letter of interest and resume.

The Washington, D.C. Office of Congresswoman Bordallo offers both summer and part-time internships. Summer internships are open to rising college seniors and underclassmen and run for a six-week period, from June 5, 2006 to July 14, 2006 and July 10, 2006 to August 18, 2006. Part-time internships are open to applicants in the area. The application deadline for summer internships is Saturday, April 29, 2006. Applications for the part-time internship are accepted throughout the year. However, summer is the most popular time for interns. House Rules and space constraints limit the number of interns that can work in the office during any semester. Please bear this in mind when applying. Letters of interest received from students from Guam are given priority.
Questions about internships can be directed by e-mail to madeleine.bordallo@mail.house.gov. Internship information is also available at www.house.gov/bordallo.
