Congresswoman issues statement about Guam casualty

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—December 21, 2005—Washington, D.C.—

Although military officials have not released official information on the loss of Guam’s son, Richard Naputi, Jr., of Talofofo, his family has confirmed the loss of this native son.

“It is with a heavy heart that I extend my sincerest sympathies to the Naputi family, including his wife Brianne Naputi, his parents Richard and Elena Naputi and to all of Richard’s extended family and friends who share in this tragic loss. As we look toward the Christmas message of “Peace on Earth”, Richard’s loss makes us reflect on the men and women who have given so much to protect our liberty and our freedom.”

“Richard understood that freedom was not free, and while his loss is painful for our entire island and our nation, he now joins that solemn fraternity of heroes who have put their country before themselves and made the greatest sacrifice. To these men and women, we owe a debt of gratitude that is simply unpayable,” Bordallo stated.

“But we can forever honor the sacrifice of Richard Naputi, Jr. by living our lives with the honor and dignity with which he lived his. During this difficult time, I know all the people of Guam will join me in keeping the Naputi family in our thoughts and prayers. I also extend my prayers to the many men and women continuing to serve around the world in the cause of freedom today. God bless the Naputi family, God bless our men and women in uniform and God bless America.”
