9/29/06: Dodd, Lieberman Hail Senate Passage of Bill Designating Upper Housatonic Valley As National Heritage Area

WASHINGTON - Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman today lauded passage in the Senate of a bill designating the Upper Housatonic Valley in Connecticut and Massachusetts as a National Heritage Area and authorizing up to $10 million to preserve the historic and cultural assets of the region.  The bill had passed in the House on July 26, 2006.  Dodd and Lieberman then worked to clear the bill through the Senate.  President Bush is now expected to sign the bill into law without delay.

5/24/06: Dodd, Lieberman Announce More Than $216,000 In Equipment For Connecticut First Responders

WASHINGTON—Thirteen Connecticut towns will receive equipment worth a total of $216,000 to help improve first responder capabilities, Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today. The equipment will be provided through federal grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under the Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP). The initiative provides law enforcement and emergency responder agencies with equipment to improve communications between local first responders in order to increase efficiency in regional responses.

Senator Dodd participated in a joint meeting between the Northwestern Connecticut Council of Governments and the Litchfield Hills Council of Elected Officials to discuss the federal issues important to the region such as transportation, the budget, the economy, and the administration of federal elections.


3/08/06: Dodd, Lieberman Congratulate Connecticut Delegates to the United States Senate Youth Program

Washington, D.C. - Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman today congratulated Chanda Choun of North Haven and Sean Link of Terryville for participating in the 44th Annual United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) as the Connecticut delegates this week. The USSYP, funded by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, offers meritorious students a scholarship and a one week trip to study the federal government in Washington D.C.

WASHINGTON - The Northfield Volunteer Fire Department will receive $47,500 in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today. The fire company will get funds for new equipment and safety and training initiatives.

WASHINGTON - The Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Conference Committee today approved a measure that, thanks in part to the efforts of Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman, will provide funding to help improve surface transportation, rail transit and promote affordable housing and community development in Connecticut and across the country. Dodd and Lieberman worked with their Senate and House colleagues to ensure that funds for a number of Connecticut projects remained in the bill providing more than $55 million in new federal funds for transportation and housing initiatives statewide.

WASHINGTON – The Senate and House have reached an agreement on two appropriations bills that will provide $15,945,000 in federal funding for important Connecticut initiatives in fiscal year 2006, Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today. Dodd and Lieberman worked to ensure that resources for a number of Connecticut initiatives were included in both the Commerce, Justice, Science and State and the Energy & Water appropriations bills.
