9/29/06: Dodd, Lieberman Hail Senate Passage of Bill Designating Upper Housatonic Valley As National Heritage Area

WASHINGTON - Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman today lauded passage in the Senate of a bill designating the Upper Housatonic Valley in Connecticut and Massachusetts as a National Heritage Area and authorizing up to $10 million to preserve the historic and cultural assets of the region. The bill had passed in the House on July 26, 2006. Dodd and Lieberman then worked to clear the bill through the Senate. WASHINGTON - The Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Conference Committee today approved a measure that, thanks in part to the efforts of Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman, will provide funding to help improve surface transportation, rail transit and promote affordable housing and community development in Connecticut and across the country. Dodd and Lieberman worked with their Senate and House colleagues to ensure that funds for a number of Connecticut projects remained in the bill providing more than $55 million in new federal funds for transportation and housing initiatives statewide.
