Marine Geophysics, GEODAS worldwide marine geophysical databases and derived products

GEODAS (GEOphysical DAta System) is an interactive database management system developed by the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) for use in the assimilation, storage and retrieval of geophysical data. The GEODAS software is being used with several types of data including marine trackline geophysical data, hydrographic (bathymetric) survey data, aeromagnetic survey data, multibeam bathymetric data, and gridded bathymetry/topography.

GEODAS data sets of these digital databases have been released as CD-ROM and DVD-ROM sets by the National Geophysical Data Center, complete with user access software for Windows 95/98/NT, Macintosh OS-X and UNIX Xwindows. The GEODAS access software allows Searches and Downloads of GEODAS databases by geographic area, year of survey, institution, platform, cruise, or geophysical parameter. GEODAS Grid translation software allows creation of custom bathymetric/topographic grids with user-defined options for area, format, cell size, etc. To obtain the latest versions of this software see the GEODAS Software Download Page.

On-line versions of GEODAS allow free downloads of geophysical data. GEODAS Search and Data Retrieval gives access to the Marine Trackline Geophysics and NOS Hydrographic Surveys databases. GEODAS Grid Translator (Design-a-Grid) allows users to create and download a custom grid of bathymetry/topography from ETOPO2 Worldwide Gridded Relief, US Coastal Relief Model and Great Lakes Bathymetry.

NGDC is pleased to accept contributions of geophysical data on almost any media, preferably in standard formats such as MGD-2000 Exchange Formats. A format of the contributor's choice is also acceptable provided that it is well documented. Any data received is in the international public domain, readily available globally to any interested individual or group.
