Welcome to the Remote Access WEB page
Why Remote Access:
With the enhancement of the telecommunications infrastructure and an
increase in the quality of communication links in general, it has become
increasingly possible to offer users at remote sites access to computer
resources, applications, and data. This remote access can have a
significant benefit in supporting the continuity of operations under
many disruption scenarios, including civil unrest, terrorist attack,
biohazard, or security shutdown.
This Web page provides instructions on how the user
can gain remote access to the Server Based Computing (SBC) environment
at USAID.
System
Requirements:
- Any System that has Internet access and a browser should work.
- A connection rate minimum of 33.6 Kbps (lower speeds impact
performance)

How do
I receive Support:
There are two ways to receive support for Remote Access:
1. Call the Helpdesk -- (202) 712-1234
- The
first point of contact is the Helpdesk. They have been trained to
handle most problems and/or questions and to determine the problem
complexity. If required the issue will be escalated to the appropriate
Tech Support Team for resolution.
2. Send an e-mail to RAS.Support@USAID.GOV -- Internet e-mail address
- The second option is to contact RAS Support directly using
e-mail. RAS Support will review the problem and/or question,
and provide information or escalate it to the appropriate
group. RAS Support provides Electronic Support Only.

How to gain Remote Access:
-
Complete and submit a 'USAID Computer Access Request' form
(form # AID 545-7).
This form can also be found at 'Inside USAID' under 'Forms':
http://inside.usaid.gov/
- All users requiring Remote Access will select the 'Remote'
option under 'Type of Access'. Direct Hires and Onsite
Contractors will be given the standard Remote Access. This access
consist of the Standard agency Desktop.
Also available will be Internet Explorer (for Internet and
Intranet access), Phone directories and some of the other standard
desktop options.
- If you require access to additional applications not listed above,
select the Addendum
and check for the required application. Not all applications are
supported using remote access.
- Offsite contractors should follow instruction provided on the
Offsite Contractors Support Center.

For Access
while on TDY:
- All AID users that have access to the
Intranet can access e-mail. This can be done by opening the agency
internal Web Page and selecting -Outlook Web. From the OWA Outlook WEB
Access menu select
Windows 2000
Outlook Web Access, then locate and select your location.
All missions do not have direct Intranet access, so check with the
mission before leaving. Other steps may be required to access your
mail.
- E-mail access from a mission without direct Intranet access will
require some type of Internet connection and a RSA token for SBC
access.
If you are planning to use a Laptop, that system must have
some type of Internet connection and a RSA token. If you have not requested and been granted Remote
Access into AIDNET you must do so before leaving on TDY.
Before this Remote Access can be Granted:
You must complete and return the 'USAID Computer Access Request' form
(AID 545-7). If you do not complete this form, you will not be granted
remote access to AIDNET. You
can obtain the form by returning to the
How to gain Remote Access section above.
