Revised International Recommendation of
R-51 for Automatic Catchweighing Instruments
The following article is an update on the revision of OIML R 51 for Automatic Catchweighing Instruments.
The secretariat of OIML Technical Committee 9 - Instruments for measuring mass and density, Sub Committee 2 - Automatic weighing instruments (TC 9/SC 2) originally circulated the 3rd Committee Draft of the revision of R 51-1 and R 51-2 in November 2002 for vote and comment. The Draft was ultimately was approved by the subcommittee in June 2003. A Draft Recommendation (DR) was submitted to BIML and approved by the CIML in August 2004. However, due to the large number of comments from the CIML, the Secretariat decided to withdraw that DR from a vote to sanction the DR at the CIML Meeting. In accordance with the directives for OIML technical work, the Draft has reverted to the status of a “committee draft.” The Secretariat produces this fourth draft after detailed consideration of the postal CIML comments to ensure that a new, more acceptable DR is available for the CIML Meeting in June 2005.
WMD has recently received a copy of the Fourth Committee Draft of both R 51-1, and R 51 2 along with the CIML Comments. A copy of the Fourth Committee Draft and submitted comments are available here. Please contact Steve Cook by email at stevenc@nist.gov if you have additional questions.
WMD is asking that the members of USNWG for R-51 and other interested individuals, organizations, and associations review the Fourth Committee Draft. Please submit any comments, along with recommended language and technical justifications to Steve Cook NIST WMD by December 31, 2004 so that a U.S. position can be prepared.
