ASSISTANT UNITED STATES ATTORNEY
UNITED STATES ATTORNEY'S OFFICE
CENTRAL DISTRICT CALIFORNIA

About the Office: The United States Attorney's Office for the Central District of California (USAO), with approximately 250 Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), is the second largest in the country. The USAO handles criminal and civil litigation on behalf of the United States throughout the seven counties that make up the Central District – Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. The USAO is divided into three litigating Divisions (Criminal, Civil, and Tax) and a non-lawyer Administrative Division. The Criminal Division has a number of sections that specialize in different types of criminal prosecutions. The Civil Division has both a general civil section, which primarily defends the United States and its agencies in civil lawsuits, and an affirmative civil enforcement section, which primarily pursues civil whistleblower and other penalty cases under the False Claims Act. The USAO's main office is in Los Angeles, with branch offices in Santa Ana (Orange County), and Riverside (Riverside County).
