The Civil Division is seeking experienced litigation attorneys to handle its general trial and appellate cases, "Winstar"/financial cases, and international trade disputes. These positions are located in Washington, D.C.

Duty Location: Washington, D.C.

Duties: The National Courts Section handles cases involving billions of dollars in claims filed by and against the government. General litigation attorneys handle high-stakes monetary actions, including government contract disputes, procurement and personnel decisions, as well as recovery of monies fraudulently secured or improperly diverted from the United States Treasury. Some of these attorneys also handle complex liability and damages matters involving billions in dollars in claims relating to the disposal of spent nuclear fuel. "Winstar"/financial cases involve large damages claims by financial institutions and investors, including complex cost of replacement and lost profit models, and a wide range of other economic, accounting, and regulatory issues. International trade attorneys defend the imposition of special duties upon dumped or subsidized imports, prosecute customs fraud violations, and litigate other international trade disputes. Section attorneys appear routinely in the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States Court of International Trade, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), have at least one year of post-J.D. experience, and be a U.S. citizen. Applicants should have a strong interest in trial and appellate work and an exceptional academic background. The ideal candidate should enjoy working on fast-paced, complex litigation, feel comfortable in a court room setting, and enjoy frequent travel. Judicial clerkship experience is highly desirable.

Salary: Grade and salary range is GS-12 to GS-15 ($58,070 - $124,783), depending upon experience and current salary. Relocation expenses are not authorized.
