About the Office: The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Texas has jurisdiction and responsibility in a broad range of areas, all of which involve representing the legal interests of the Federal government in the United States District Courts. The Eastern District of Texas consists of 43 counties in the eastern third of Texas and stretches from the Oklahoma border to the Gulf of Mexico. The office employs over 100 persons, including 46 Assistant U.S. Attorneys who man six staffed division offices. The United States Attorney, Matthew D. Orwig, is currently seeking to hire an outstanding criminal prosecutor as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Plano, Texas office.

Responsibilities and Opportunity Offered: Employment with the U.S. Attorney's Office offers a unique and challenging experience for the highly motivated attorney: an opportunity to work on some of the most significant, complex and visible cases being litigated today. Working in the Criminal Division, you will be part of a dedicated team helping to enforce Federal criminal and civil laws that protect life, liberty and property of citizens. This position will work health care fraud cases that involve Medicaid. This Special Assistant U.S. Attorney will be employed by the Office of the Attorney General of Texas (OAG) as an Assistant Attorney General and a State of Texas employee.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member in good standing of the bar (any jurisdiction), and have at least 7 years of post-J.D. experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Hiring preferences include strong academics, significant litigation experience, criminal law experience, solid legal writing skills, and a demonstrated commitment to public service.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required.

Salary Information: Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys' pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of starting pay is $60,456 to $71,208.

Location: The United States Attorney's Office in Plano, Texas, is located at 660 North Central Expressway, Suite 400, Plano, Texas. It is located astride US Highway 75 and is a short distance north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Plano offers all the wonderful advantages available in the nearby Metroplex area.

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses will not be authorized.

Applications will be evaluated by the OAG in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney's Office with a limited number of applicants to be invited for an interview. Interviews may be subsequently conducted by Criminal and Civil Division Chiefs, the First Assistant and the United States Attorney. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of such factors as academic performance, trial experience, research and writing ability, oral communication skills, and other legal and community service and experience.
