About the Office: The Office of the Inspector General, Office of Oversight and Review, U.S. Department of Justice conducts and leads special investigations of misconduct, waste, fraud, and abuse within the Department of Justice and its component offices. This office investigates sensitive allegations of misconduct, and performs management and programmatic reviews of Department of Justice operations. These investigations are often undertaken at the request of the Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, or Congressional Committees.

Responsibilities and
Opportunity Offered:
As Attorney -Advisor, the incumbent receives and reviews information or allegations presented concerning the conduct of Departmental employees that may be in violation of law, Department regulations, orders and applicable standards of conduct. The incumbent makes preliminary inquiries into allegations or refers the matter to the appropriate division, bureau, office or board or undertakes the investigation when referral to another official would be inappropriate. Responsibilities involves a high level of individual responsibility for the resolution of cases and legal matters of the highest order of difficulty and importance. In addition, the Attorney- Advisor will perform special duties as assigned in direct support of the OIG.

Qualifications: Applicant must possess a J.D. degree from a School of Law accredited by the American Bar Association, be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of a state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and preferably have five years of post-J.D. experience. Excellent academic credentials, litigation experience, good writing skills, and the ability to lead teams of investigators are also essentials for the job.

(1) Demonstrated ability to conduct and direct complex legal research; engage in sound legal analysis; and present the results in a clear, precise, and persuasive manner. (2) Ability to manage and lead a staff and work with senior management officials and investigative personnel. (3) Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and apply substantive law and the ability to assimilate technical subject matters, define issues, and analyze and evaluate evidence. (4) Ability to express oneself orally in a manner that is clear, concise, and understandable, and to elicit facts by examining witnesses. (5) Ability to write, clear, concise, and convincing reports.

Travel: Some travel may be required.
