Contents

Navigating the CD

  1. Getting started

To start the CD from the LAN:
Windows Start > Net Apps > CDNET > ADS > Run

If you have your own copy of the CD:
Go to your CD drive and double click on "ADStoc.pdf" or start Acrobat and use File > Open to open "ADStoc.pdf."

You should now be at the the ADS Table of Contents page.

    ADS Table of Contents page

The TOC page includes buttons for

    • Series100 through 600
    • Interim Updates
    • Handbooks
    • Reference Library
    • Glossary

Click on a series button, and you will get to a chapter list for each series. Click on any chapter title to access the chapter.

  2. Chapters

Each ADS chapter has a link (in the bookmarks list on the left of the screen) to return to the ADS Table of Contents page or to the series chapter list. 3. References

In addition to following links from ADS chapters, you can access reference documents directly through alphabetical lists. References are located within each series as well as in the Reference Library. References located in series are usually single documents that relate to one chapter or a few chapters in that series. Those in the Reference Library are usually series or large documents, such as the AIDAR, the FAR, and the FAM, that relate to many ADS chapters.

To access references in individual series, go to the Series chapter list and click on "Series x00 References." Click on any title. References have bookmark links to the ADS Table of Contents and back to the associated chapter; some longer references also have bookmarks to parts of the document similar to the chapter bookmarks.

To access references in the Reference Library, click on the Reference Library button and then on the individual document or series (this link will take you either directly to the document, or, if the reference has several volumes, to a secondary table of contents).

  4. Screen layout

The view of the document in PDF can be adjusted using the icons along the top of the screen (zoom or page tools) or the options under the View and Window drop-down menus. The bookmark list can be hidden by dragging it away, using the option under Window, or by pressing F5.

Next/previous view as well as next and previous and first and last page arrows are also in the top tool bar. Hold your mouse over each button to read its function.

Search button  "Search" locates term anywhere on the CD. If you have your own copy of the CD, you have even more options: you can search any series or combination of series as well as the entire CD.

  2. Advanced searching

The find and search screens have various options such as match case, words stemming, and proximity, which finds two words or phrases close together. You can also conduct Boolean searches, using "and," "or," and "not." See "Searching indexes" in Acrobat Help, under the Help menu in the Acrobat Reader, for a full explanation.
