What is New in Flood Hazard Mapping
This is an exciting time for the NFIP Flood Hazard Mapping Program. FEMA has launched an ambitious Map Modernization program to speed flood map updates. We are working with local communities and other agencies to tap into their mapping expertise as it applies to flood maps. We are exploring use of cutting edge technology to map larger areas at a small fraction of the cost.

Preliminary FIS and FIRM Issued for Portions of Wake County, North Carolina

On June 29, 2004, FEMA issued a preliminary Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report and Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for Wake County, North Carolina and Incorporated Areas for public review.

Numerical Models Accepted by FEMA for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Usage

May 12, 2004
Updated lists of numerical models that have met the requirements of Subparagraph 65.6(a)(6) of the NFIP regulations that explain conditions by which a computer model may be used for flood hazard mapping. Also included is a list of numerical models which FEMA no longer accepts for NFIP usage.

Draft Data Capture Standards and Draft Data Capture Guidelines

April 16, 2004
Review the draft Data Capture Standards and draft Data Capture Guidelines during the 90-day review and comment period, starting April 15, 2004, and ending on July 15, 2004. The DCS will be finalized once all comments have been addressed.
