USAID provides hundreds of teachers in Afghanistan with a place to train and educate |
Repairing Teacher Training Colleges |
|
In a country where many rural teachers have no more than a primary school education, teacher training is critical to the nation’s education system in Afghanistan. USAID is focused on renovating the teacher training colleges in Afghanistan, while the country’s government is providing training for thousands of its teachers throughout the country to ensure Afghan children a brighter and more prosperous future.

Before
The Kabul Teacher Training College – one of twelve in the country – was destroyed by vicious factional fighting in 1992 and left a useless ruin.

After
USAID funded the renovation of the main classroom building which took less than four months to complete and provided jobs for workers in the devastated community. Now completed, the college is beginning to train up to 600 teachers a year – half of the students are women.
