The CRI Team is currently
planning the next series of workshops, and is soliciting
ideas. If you have ideas for workshop themes, send an
e-mail to NWFSC.workshops@noaa.gov.
The calendar on this page is broken up into three sections:
Upcoming Workshops, Past Workshops, and Workshop Information. Workshop
dates will be posted as they are made available with the appropriate
information.
In order to involve, obtain input from, and keep informed both the technical
scientific community and the community of policy-makers, the NWFSC has
established a monthly series of workshops, with the audience of the workshops
alternating between highly technical experts in specialized areas (so-called
"technical workshops") and a mix of policy and technical participants
(so-called "science and policy workshops").
Technical workshops are a medium for NMFS scientists to present results,
work in progress, and proposed approaches for future work to external
scientists. Presentations will be technical. We hope to receive suggestions,
alternative approaches, and critiques of our work. In order to receive
the maximum technical benefit from these workshops, and ensure that all
participants have an opportunity to provide input, we will restrict attendance
to invitees. However, we will make every effort to include all interested
groups. In particular we will invite technical representatives from state,
tribal, local, academic and private groups. We also welcome recommendations
of specific people with expertise in the areas covered by each technical
workshop to include in our list of invitees.
Science and Policy workshops are aimed at a broad audience. They are
designed to provide policy-makers and other interested parties an overview
of the Cumulative Risk Integration analyses (current and future), as well
as a discussion of the application of scientific findings to decision-making
scenarios. In addition, they offer a forum for participants to provide
feedback concerning these analyses and applications.
To date topics for these workshops have been established only through
the end of 1999, and the NWFSC welcomes suggestions for future topics
(starting with January of 2000). A set of written reports, following the
workshop agenda, will accompany all workshops. In addition, after each
workshop, we will provide a brief report detailing the concerns raised
at the workshop. We will provide these reports on request to people unable
to attend the workshops.
