BBRB Newsletter: Spring 2003

Greetings Colleagues! Welcome to the Spring 2003 BBRB Newsletter! In this edition we update you on our ongoing BiMPED (Biological Mechanisms of Psychosocial Effects on Disease) initiative, spearheaded by Paige McDonald, and our new decision-making initiative, which is being developed by Wendy Nelson.

In addition, please see our notice describing the Cancer Research Training Award position available in BBRB. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, talented junior scientist to join us for one or two years. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone interested in health psychology and cancer control to gain experience working as an extramural behavioral scientist at the National Cancer Institute. We encourage you to apply or to send us some talented applicants!

Finally, we have the usual collection of helpful hints, Web sites, and funding opportunities that may come in helpful as you prepare your applications. Be sure to note our “Spotlight on BBRB Grantees” section, where we highlight the work of Dr. Sonia Ancoli-Israel and Dr. Arthur Stone. We are proud to support the work of these productive investigators.

We hope that you will read, enjoy, and feel free to share your suggestions with us. Direct comments and inquiries to Dr. Wendy Nelson at nelsonw@mail.nih.gov.

Michael Stefanek, Ph.D
Chief, Basic Biobehavioral Research Branch
