About Basic Biobehavioral Research
BBRB aspires to serve as a national model for promoting, sponsoring, and supporting basic biobehavioral research and training. The research we support is aimed at identifying the mechanisms, principles, and theoretical underpinnings of cancer-related behavior change across all ages, racial and ethnic groups, socioeconomic strata, and cancer diagnoses.
Our mission is accomplished by:
- Supporting extramural funding mechanisms (R01s, R03s, R21s, R13s) and Program initiatives (Requests for Applications, Program Announcements)
- Sponsoring conferences, workshops, and training for cancer control researchers in order to disseminate research findings, foster research collaborations, and provide education about the NIH grant application and review process
- Soliciting and incorporating input from the extramural scientific community in an effort to build the basic biobehavioral research agenda and develop Program initiatives
- Promoting the science of basic biobehavioral research through publications in professional journals and presentations at national, regional, and local conferences sponsored by professional organizations involved in health research
- Promoting the agenda of the BBRB at national, regional, and local conferences, interested organizations, and academic institutions
