Social Security

You can obtain quick and accurate information about Social Security applications and benefits by calling the Social Security Administration's toll-free number, 1 (800) 772-1213 (TTY: 1 (800) 325-0778). Your local office may also have a separate number listed in the Blue Pages of your phone book. If you can't locate this number, check with our National Contact Center by calling toll-free 1 (800) FED INFO.

To review recent court rulings or legislation, obtain online computation of prospective benefits, look at statistics about the program, or download some forms, take a look through Social Security Online .

Medicare and Medicaid

If you are especially interested in details about the Medicare and Medicaid programs, start with the home page for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

If you would like to contact Medicare directly, you can call the Medicare Toll-Free hotline at 1 (800) 633-4227 (1 (877) 486-2048 for TTY users) or visit Helpful Contacts on their web site.

The hotline answers inquiries from Medicare beneficiaries and the general public regarding the Medicare health insurance program, especially questions about health insurance plans that supplement Medicare (Medigap policies).  The hotline also accepts reports of suspected medicare waste, fraud and abuse and complaints regarding Medigap sales practices.
