NWR, credit USFWSNWR, credit USFWSSecretary of the Interior Gale Norton announced today that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will award more than $13 million in grants to 10 states to conserve, restore and protect coastal wetlands. States awarded grants for fiscal year 2005 under the National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program are Alaska, Georgia, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

Service Issues Interim Rule for Threatened Beluga Sturgeon

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has issued an interim special rule that will allow trade in products derived from threatened beluga sturgeon as long as that trade is consistent with regulatory requirements already in force under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). The interim rule also provides for the continuation of ongoing international cooperative conservation efforts to ensure the survival of the species in the wild.

United States Reauthorizes North American Waterfowl Management Plan

Interior Secretary Gale Norton reaffirmed the United States' commitment to international waterfowl conservation efforts by signing an update to the North American Waterfowl Management Plan. The plan is a public-private approach to manage waterfowl in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Partners have invested more than $2.2 billion to protect, restore or enhance more than 8 million acres of habitat in the plan's history.
