Weather on the Grasslands

North Dakota has a dry, continental climate with four distinct seasons. 

The average winter temperatures vary from about 11F (-12C) in the northeast to about 14F (-10C) in the southwest.  Average summer temperatures vary from 67F (19C) in the south-central part of the state to about 64F (18C) in the northwest.  Annual precipitation varies from 20 inches (50 cm) in the east to 14 inches (36 cm) in the west.

The growing season averages 135 days in the extreme south. In the northeastern and north-central parts, it averages only 110 days.
