Resource Management
on the Dakota Prairie Grasslands

Northern Great Plains Management Plans Revision
The Northern Great Plains Management Plans Revision is a combined planning effort of the Dakota Prairie Grasslands, and the Medicine Bow-Routt and Nebraska National Forests. This effort will revise the three Land and Resource Management Plans for the National Grassland units on the Dakota Prairie Grasslands and Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, and all the units of the Nebraska National Forest.
Bureau of Land Management & Forest Service
Off-Highway Vehicle Plan Amendment for
Montana, North Dakota and portions of South Dakota
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U. S. Forest Service propose to change management direction regarding cross-country off-highway vehicle (OHV) use in Montana, North Dakota and a portion of South Dakota. The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and forest plan/resource management plan amendment would change areas that are currently unrestricted for cross-country OHV use to a decision that allows for travel only on roads and trail that currently exist on the ground. Snowmobile use will not be addressed in this EIS. Exceptions to be considered in the analysis would be for such things as game retrieval, camping and disabled access. Not affected by the proposed action would be off-road vehicle access allowed under the terms and conditions of a federal lease or permit, however, other alternatives may be considered in the EIS.
Roadless Area Conservation
The Department of Agriculture is adopting this final rule to protect and conserve inventoried roadless areas on National Forest System lands. The preamble states the basis and purpose of the rule, includes responses to comments received on the proposed rule, and serves as the record of decision for this rulemaking.
National Grasslands Management - A Primer
In September and October 1995, a team of Forest Service officials conducted a management review of national grasslands. The resulting Action Plan directed that a "white paper" be prepared to identify and interpret the laws and regulations applicable to the administration of the national grasslands. It was felt that such a "white paper" would assist Forest Service employees involved in the day-to-day administration of the national grasslands and improve their understanding of the laws and regulations applicable to these areas. In so doing, it would also facilitate a more consistent application of the law to similar cases arising on different national grasslands. This is that "white paper."

Dakota Prairie Grasslands Quarterly NEPA Report
Each year we conduct environmental analysis and planning for a wide variety of projects. Your participation in the analysis for these projects can promote better decisions by informing us of your concerns regarding the potential impacts of our proposed projects and by reviewing our analysis and alternatives. This Schedule is produced quarterly and includes project proposals we anticipate working on in the coming months. Some of the projects on this list are repeated from the previous Quarter, while projects, which are just getting underway appear here for the first time.
