The entire Little Missouri National Grassland, except campgrounds and the Blue Buttes, are open to wood cutting from June 1 to Mar 31.
Permits may be purchased at the Medora and McKenzie District Offices.
GRASSLAND MAPS
Maps of each of the National Grasslands of the Northern Region are available at any District Ranger Office on the Grassland or the Supervisor's Office. The price of each map is $6.00 USD. There are also local private vendors that sell the maps. Check or Money Order only when ordering by mail. Sorry, we are unable to accept credit cards.
CHRISTMAS TREE PERMITS
Personal Use Christmas Tree permits allow the cutting of one tree per family and sell for $3 each. Christmas Tree cutting is authorized on the Custer Forest's Sioux District. Any variety of tree under 12 ft. may be cut with the permit. Trees may not be cut in campgrounds, around residences, within 100 ft. of a road or on private property. Permits are available at the Medora and Grand River Ranger District offices.
FEDERAL RECREATION PERMITS
There are three congressionally authorized entrance fee passes sold at the Dakota Prairie Grasslands offices. The annual Golden Eagle Passport and the two lifetime passes, the Golden Age Passport and Golden Access Passport, may be used at most national parks, monuments, historic sites, recreation areas and national wildlife refuges that charge an entrance fee. All three passports admit the pass holder and any accompanying passengers in a private vehicle.
Where entry is not by private vehicle, the passport admits the pass holder, spouse and children.

GOLDEN EAGLE PASSPORT: ($65.): The Golden Eagle Passport is good for a 12-month period starting with the date of purchase and ending the last day of the purchase month one year later. It permits unlimited entries to all federal entrance fee areas.

GOLDEN AGE PASSPORT: ($10.): A Golden Age Passport MUST be obtained IN PERSON. There is a one-time $10 processing fee. The passport is available only to citizens or permanent residents of the United States who are 62 years old or older. PROOF OF AGE MUST BE SHOWN.

GOLDEN ACCESS PASSPORT: (FREE): A Golden Access Passport MUST be obtained IN PERSON. It is available only to citizens or permanent residents of the United States who have been medically determined to be blind or permanently disabled.
