Experiments in Art

(a Drawing Game)

The world of science is one of constant experimentation. But what does that word, experimentation, actually mean? Experimentation is the act or process of trying out a new procedure, idea, or activity. The scientists at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences do a lot of "experimenting" to determine how things in our environment affect our bodies. Their experiments help us determine what role environmental exposures and/or our unique genetic structures play with regard to human health. Armed with such knowledge, they may be able to discover some way to prevent that from happening. Student experiments
(One of our student visitors reviews the results of an experiment)

How about doing a little experimenting on your own? Try out, or "test", the little drawing game below to see what you can create. You may have to test each of the patterns first, to see how they work, before you can put it all together into a final beautiful picture of your own -- but perhaps half the fun will be the experimentation itself! When you are finished with you artwork, learn more about becoming a scientist yourself someday!

Select a line color and background color, and different patterns to create special effects! Once you've selected a color and pattern, just click with your mouse and drag it to create a drawing.
Note: You need a Java-enabled browser like Netscape or Microsoft Explorer to properly use the drawing tool. In addition, this java script does not always work with all MACs and older versions of the Netscape browser.
