At their first General Assembly in July 2004, more than 2000 Afghan businessmen and women gathered to organize the Afghan International Chamber of Commerce (AICC) and democratically elect a set of leaders representing all major ethnic groups in the country. With support from USAID and the Center for International Private Enterprise, the AICC is building a network of voluntary-membership business associations to support Afghanistan's political and economic development.
