Investigative
and Enforcement Services
Within the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and
Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), the Investigative and
Enforcement Services(IES) staff works diligently to ensure the
health and care of the animals and plants under its jurisdiction.
IES helps the animal and agricultural industries achieve compliance
with APHIS regulations. Compliance is accomplished through comprehensive
investigations, sound enforcement, and strong educational efforts.
Animal
Welfare Information Center
The Animal Welfare Center (AWIC) is part of the National Agricultural
Library (NAL), which is located in Beltsville, MD. The Center
was established in December 1986 as mandated by amendments to
the Animal Welfare Act. It is the focal point for those interested
in obtaining information or publications covering many aspects
of animal welfare. It provides information for improved animal
care and use in research, teaching, and testing.
Missing
Pets Network (MPN)
Each year, thousands of pets are reported missing. MPN links computer
users throughout the country to help pet owners locate these animals.
Pet owners can submit a brief description of their missing pet
and a photo if available. This information is then posted to the
MPN website. Local humane and animal control officials as well
as private citizens can then use this information to help locate
the missing animal and unite it with its owner.

Alternatives
to Animal Testing (Altweb)
Traditionally, animals have been used to ensure the safety of our
consumer products and drugs. Yet around the world, scientists, regulators
and animal protectionists work together to develop alternatives
to their use. This site was developed to give you a window into
that world: What is an alternative? How is it developed? What must
happen before an alternative is deemed acceptable?
NIH's
Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW)
Located within the Department of Human and Health Services' National
Institutes of Health (NIH), OLAW oversees the Policy on the Humane
Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. This policy provides detailed
guidance to researchers on how to care for animals used in experimentation.
All researchers who receive NIH grants must follow this policy.
NOTE:
Animal Care is not responsible for the content of web pages other
than its own. Animal Care makes "links" to numerous outside websites
either as a public service or because the pages are concerned
with animal welfare in general. Some linked sites may advocate
causes or advertise products for sale which Animal Care neither
endorses nor condemns. Moreover, a linked page may be completely
changed without Animal Care being notified.
