WHITE HOUSE INITIATIVES
Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives

Current Section

The paramount goal is compassionate results, and private and charitable groups, including religious ones, should have the fullest opportunity permitted by law to compete on a level playing field, so long as they achieve valid public purposes.... The delivery of social services must be results-oriented and should value the bedrock principles of pluralism, nondiscrimination, evenhandedness, and neutrality.

--President George W. Bush

Welcome to the U.S. Department of Education's Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.

The goal of the Center is to break down existing barriers and empower faith-based and community groups, enlisting them in support of the Department's mission to ensure equal access to education and to promote educational excellence for all Americans.

This web site provides:

  • background about the Faith-Based and Community Initiative,
  • information about grants from the U.S. Department of Education,
  • announcements about upcoming conferences and workshops,
  • grant writing tips, and
  • partnership ideas.

From after-school programs to weekend computer labs, from early reading to family literacy, there are many opportunities for faith-based and community organizations to help ensure that no child is left behind.
