Mr. Schiff: It was a crime on the high seas off the California coast...

Mr. Norregard: "I received a call late in the evening at my residence from the Commander of the Coast Guard in Long Beach."

Mr. Schiff: That's Pete Norregard, a retired FBI Special Agent. But in the late 70s, a supervisor at the FBI's office in Long Beach...

Mr. Norregard: "The FBI has primary jurisdiction on crimes such as this, namely Interstate Transportation of Stolen Property and Crime On the High Seas."

Mr. Schiff: Norregard says he sent Agents Jim Freeman and Conrad Hassell to help; they got on a helicopter...

Mr. Norregard: "And then they were off flying to rendezvous with the Coast Guard cutter on the high seas."

Mr. Schiff: Norregard says the middle of the night chase was on...

Mr. Norregard: "They refused to stop. At which time the Coast Guard gunners fired about a dozen rounds of their 50 caliber machine gun across the bow."

Mr. Schiff:The stolen boat stopped. Freeman and Hassell, wearing suits and ties, jumped onto the wet decks and battled with the subjects. All three were handcuffed and arrested. I'm Neal Schiff and that's the FBI's Closed Case of the Week."
