WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced today the swearing in of William Hammink as its new Mission Director for Ethiopia.
As Ethiopia Mission Director Mr. Hammink will manage one of the Agency's largest missions in Africa. USAID's program in Ethiopia totals approximately $45 million in development assistance, focusing on agriculture, health, education, and democracy and governance programs. In addition, Mr. Hammink will oversee one of USAID's largest humanitarian programs in Africa, totaling more than $100 million.
A career foreign service officer with 21 years of experience in international development, Mr. Hammink joined USAID in 1982 as a Program Officer at the USAID Mission in Swaziland. His overseas assignments include postings in Senegal, Madagascar and Russia. He served as Deputy Mission Director to the USAID mission in the West Bank and Gaza, and has also held various senior program management positions.
Mr. Hammink earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and a Master's degree from the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota. He is married to Marie-Eve Hammink. They have two children attending university.
The U.S. Agency for International Development has provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for more than 40 years.
