WASHINGTON - The U.S. chartered "Liberty Glory" delivered a total of 33,000 metric tons of emergency food commodities to southern Africa in late May and early June. Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the food aid included $13.3 million worth of corn, beans and vegetable oil, which will feed approximately two million people for a month. The "Liberty Glory" first docked in the port of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, to deliver food destined for Malawi and Zambia, and then stopped in Maputo to offload the remaining 9,890 tons of food aid for Mozambique. USAID has procured an additional 36,000 metric tons of emergency food commodities, valued at $16 million, due to arrive at the end of July.

The U.S. Agency for International Development has provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for more than 40 years.
