Remarks of Director Mueller for Press Conference Announcing the superseding indictment of Jeffrey K. Skilling and Richard A. Causey

Today's indictment marks a major step forward in restoring the Country's trust and confidence in its corporations and business leaders. The message is clear. Corporate executives will be held accountable if they deceive the investing public, manipulate financial reports and abuse their positions of authority.

The charges against Jeffrey Skilling are yet another step in a concerted effort by the Corporate Fraud Task Force to uncover the truth and to make those responsible pay for their misdeeds. The FBI, along with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Internal Revenue Service, are continuing to investigate corporate fraud cases where the numerous victims include shareholders, employees, and pension plan investors. The Corporate Fraud Task Force will continue to prosecute corrupt executives and help restore public confidence in the financial markets that have been impacted by corporate fraud.

On behalf of the FBI, I would like to recognize the contributions of our partners in this investigation. Today's developments are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the FBI, the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice and members of the Enron Task Force, which include the IRS and the SEC. We thank you all for your service.
